How to test knowledge base retrieval
Check which chunks a Fast Line Pro knowledge base finds for your query — without external tools.
When you need this
- Before launching an agent, confirm the knowledge base returns the right chunks.
- A client reports the bot “cannot find an answer” — see whether retrieval or the scenario is the issue.
- After changing chunks, chunking, or search settings — verify the outcome.
What to know
- The screen is Search check (UI label may match your locale) — retrieval diagnostics, not a live agent chat test.
- Queries are up to 250 characters; empty or too-long queries are not submitted.
- The check uses the saved search settings for this knowledge base. You cannot override them on this screen.
- Results list chunks with score, document, position, and text. An empty list means nothing matched.
- A long-running check may show a timeout hint — try a shorter query or retry later.
Before you start
Steps
1. Open search check
- On the documents page, click Search check (also available from Knowledge base settings).
- The query form opens.
2. Enter a query and run
- Type a typical customer question that should match a chunk.
- Confirm the hint says the query is ready (≤250 characters).
- Click Check / Verify.
3. Review results
- Check Chunks found.
- Each row shows score, document name, position, and text (expand with Show full text).
- If nothing is found — adjust the query, review search settings, or check document content.
What happens next
The check does not change the knowledge base or live dialogs — read-only diagnostics only.
How to verify
- For an expected query, relevant chunks appear with reasonable scores.
- Edit a chunk in the base → run the check again — result text reflects the change (after indexing).
Other options
- Agent reply in a scenario — Check agent response (keyword checks in scenarios, not retrieval).
- Bulk chunk edits — Export and import chunks.
