# How to enable the new Custom Data UI?

The new **Custom Data** workspace (start screen, import with preview, board view, semantic field types) is **off by default**. While the toggle is off, the team sees the familiar (legacy) interface. An instance root administrator turns it on.

## When you need this

- You want the updated **Custom Data** UI from release 5.11.0.
- The team already tried the new UX on a test instance and is ready for production.
- You need to explain why one instance shows the new start screen and another still shows the old one.

## Key terms

- In the UI the toggle is named **Custom Data UI v2**.
- Default is **off** — enabling is opt-in.
- After enabling, users get the new workspace: table list, **New table**, import with preview, **Board**, table **Trash**, and more.
- After disabling, the legacy UI returns; table data is not deleted.
- Role permissions for Custom Data are unchanged by the toggle — check access separately.

## Before you start

- [x] You are a root administrator and can open **Instance settings**.
- [x] The team knows the **Custom Data** module look will change.
- [x] Optionally you already validated the new UI on a test instance.

## Step-by-step

1. Go to **Menu → Settings → Instance settings**.
2. Scroll to the platform feature toggles block (**Feature flags**).
3. Find **Custom Data UI v2** (description mentions phased / PrimeVue Custom Data UI; when off — legacy screens).
4. Turn the toggle on and wait for save.
5. Open **Menu → Custom Data** and confirm you see the table list and **Create table** with the start screen (import / starter / blank / Ask AI).

## What happens next

Users with Custom Data access work in the new UI. Creating tables, import, records view, and table **Trash** are covered in the module how-tos.

## How to verify

- In **Custom Data** you see the **New table** start path, not only the old editor.
- The table list has a **Trash** mode.
- Turning the toggle off restores the previous module look.
